![]() National IdentityNational IdentityTony Walsh (Greenhills) - 02:22am Sep 27, 2006 Irish Noticed that in the minutes of the AGM there was a proposal on an Irish national flag of some sort to appear with the IFAF logo. This was appearantly rejected because, as IFAF being a 32 county organisation,it could be construed as being offensive. This point is well taken, however, what would be wrong with displaying the four province flag of old?? You know the one, its a quartered shield, displaying the emblems of the four old provinces of Ireland. Anybody got any comments?? I would also like to take this opportunity to appologise for my lack of attendence at the aforementioned AGM but I had work commitments. seancrowe - 02:54am Oct 9, 2006 Irish (#1 of 7) hello tony, sorry you missed out on the agm.what is your moblie no. Tony Walsh (Greenhills) - 05:39pm Oct 10, 2006 Irish (#2 of 7) Further to my earlier observations, I cannot help wondering if any of our fellow archers from accross the border in northern Ireland, or indeed, any of our foreign national members would actually find it in the least bit offensive to enter competition under an Irish Tri-colour? I hereby put it to THEM to air their oppinions on this matter. I personally feel, on reflection, that this may just be political correctness gone off the rails! The Tri-colour is, and always was, intended to be the National flag for the entire island of Ireland, and the colours chosen for it are intended to represent this fact. The white section in the middle was chosen to signify a lasting peace between the other two colours, which I'll leave for you to figure out. This is afterall a sporting forum, not an historical or a political one. Let me finish by encouraging ALL of my fellow archers of all nationalities, or political beliefs, to express their oppinions on this subject. Lets forget our differences, and celebrate the one thing we all have in common, a love for the sport of archery, and this little green rock we all live on. seancrowe - 12:33am Oct 11, 2006 Irish (#3 of 7) ooooh! i do like it when you talk dirty.this little green rock has its own flag, green white and -----can anyone help me with the last colour. am not trying or to rub anyone up the wrong way here, but can someone tell me what is the real problem, about the tricolours. it is only a flag.
can anyone voice their thoughts. Chris Dawkins - 02:19pm Oct 11, 2006 Irish (#4 of 7) I've not yet had the opportunity to shoot at an international event, so until the AGM, I had no idea that this was a contentious issue - I'm a foreign national (I've been called considerably worse!!). I intend to go to Switzerland next year and I guess that means that in some way I am representing IFAF and therefore Ireland. I don't have any strong opinions on what flag is used. I certainly don't have any objections to the tricolour. I think my biggest concern would be that an issue like this would be the cause of some people deciding not to shoot. That would be a poor result all round. mark ivory - 09:39am Oct 20, 2006 Irish (#5 of 7) hi all and anybody else with any interest in this issue.i am also going to switzerland and i do intend to fly my irish tri-colour and i will wait to see if anybody tells me what flag i can or cant fly... Tony Walsh (Greenhills) - 03:29am Feb 6, 2007 Irish (#6 of 7) I'm glad to be able to announce that I've managed to get myself a spot in the EBHC/WBHC in Switzerland.
